British’s wedding is romantic and solemn with flowers and delicious food. But it is impossible to prepare for a memorable wedding without enough patience and time, not to mention lacking money. According to a statistics released by “You and your wedding”, a British magazine, the average wedding expenditure in England is 15764 pounds, London reaches as high as 18154 pounds. Outwardly, it just equals half of the British average income. But it is several times higher than their annual disposable income, which bring a great economic burden to many families.
They have to pay for engagement and venue wedding ring, wedding dresses, banquets, flowers, camera and photographing, honeymoon trip and so on. In tradition, the bride’s side will pay for the wedding expense, while the groom’s side will only undertake the honeymoon expenditure. With the increasing of wedding expenditure these years, the groom’s side will also burden part of the expenses such as the wedding dress or wedding ring.
Among of all the expenditures, the largest is honeymoon travel expenses. Young newly couples like going to Caribbean Sea or riding luxury yacht traveling around India Ocean, which will cost 2828 pounds for one item on average. To relieve the burden of this expenditure, many brides and grooms will indicate their relatives and friends in advance to send some economical gifts or pay for their honey moon travel.
Another large expense is the dinner and treating cost. British men go in for pomp. According to some statistics, about 44 percent of British will invite more than 100 guests to their wedding that holds in some country villas where beautiful scenery can be viewed or some castles that have a long history. In recent years, charges for such wedding places are rising. Fees of location, drink, desserts, dinner and service will cost each one 45 pounds on average after simple estimated. The drink alone will take 1049 pounds. Some newly couples that have a high taste have to pay for extra expenditure of more than 400 pounds if they want to arrange a small scale band concert.
In addition, photographing and video-taping one of the necessary wedding budget in order to record the moment that can be memorable for a life time. Some couples will ask for help to their friend in order to save money, but more people are willing to pay for more 1400 pounds to hire some professional photographers to capture one of the most cherish scenes in their life.
The newly married couples are always living happily. But many newly couples have tasted the bitters of life at the beginning owing to their luxury wedding. Irina, a 26-year-old bride says she and her husband have not been out for travel, dinner or ordering take-out for 16 consecutive months in order to return the 16 thousand pounds debt that they borrowed to hold the wedding. Even though, she expresses that she has never regret for that and thinks every penny deserves. It seems that paying more than one can burden to hold a wedding has became a social problem.
